Safety Plan and Risk Mitigation for Drone Operations

We Fly Aerial Media is committed to providing the highest standard of safety in its aerial filming operations for film, television, commercials, and live broadcasting. The following is our comprehensive safety plan, including risk mitigation strategies, that aligns with local laws, including FAA Part 107 regulation compliance.

Flying at Miami International Airport

1. Pre-flight Planning & Site Survey

  • Site Assessment: Conduct a thorough site survey to identify any potential hazards, such as power lines, trees, buildings, and other obstacles.

  • Local Regulation Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local regulations, ordinances, and any required permits.

  • Weather Analysis: Evaluate weather conditions and forecasts. Reschedule or postpone operations if necessary due to adverse weather.

2. Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

  • Routine Inspections: Implement daily pre-flight and post-flight inspections to check for damage, wear and tear, or any anomalies.

  • Regular Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance as per the manufacturer's guidelines to ensure optimal performance and safety.

  • Maintenance Records: Maintain detailed records of all inspections and maintenance for future reference and compliance.

3. FAA Part 107 Regulation Compliance

    • Operational Guidelines: Adhere strictly to FAA Part 107 regulations, including:

    • No operations over non-involved persons or moving vehicles.

    • Compliance with altitude and airspace restrictions.

    • Ensuring the remote pilot in command possesses a valid FAA Part 107 certification.

  • Emergency Protocols: Develop and maintain protocols for handling unexpected events, such as loss of control, system failure, or other emergencies.

4. Designated Launch/Landing Areas

  • Area Selection: Determine safe and appropriate launch and landing areas, free from bystanders and obstacles.

  • Secure Perimeter: Establish a secure perimeter around the launch/landing areas to prevent unauthorized access.

5. On-Site Safety Briefing for Crew, Talent, and Personnel

    • Safety Briefing: Prior to any drone operations, all crew, talent, and personnel on site will be part of a comprehensive drone safety briefing. This briefing will cover:

    • The planned flight operations and intended flight path.

    • Potential hazards and safety protocols.

    • The location of safe zones away from the drone flight area.

  • Question & Answer Session: Following the briefing, attendees will have the opportunity to ask any questions to the flight crew to ensure complete understanding of the operations and safety measures.

  • Opt-Out Opportunity: Any individual who feels uncomfortable with the drone operations or has any concerns may remove themselves from the drone flight area. Alternate arrangements will be made as needed to ensure the comfort and safety of all involved.

6. Drones' Return to Home Capabilities

  • Implementation: Utilize drones with Return to Home (RTH) capabilities to allow for safe return in the event of a lost connection or other control issues.

  • RTH Testing: Regularly test RTH functions to ensure reliable operation.

  • RTH Training: Ensure all operators are thoroughly trained in using RTH functions and understanding when and how to engage this feature.

7. Crew Training & Public Safety

  • Crew Education: Provide ongoing training to all crew members on safety protocols, equipment handling, and operational guidelines.

  • Public Interaction: Clearly communicate safety guidelines to any on-site personnel or public near the operation area.

8. Insurance & Liability

  • Insurance Coverage: Maintain appropriate liability insurance to cover potential risks related to aerial filming operations.

  • Liability Awareness: Make all stakeholders aware of their respective responsibilities and liabilities.

8. Continuous Monitoring & Improvement

  • Monitoring and Reporting System: Implement a system to monitor operations and report any unusual occurrences.

  • Periodic Reviews: Conduct periodic reviews of safety protocols and risk mitigation strategies to identify areas for improvement.
