Licensing & Legal
All US drone pilots hold FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates. Canadian crew are Transport Canada Advanced certified. Internationally, we research and comply with each country's civil aviation authority requirements ahead of production.
We're happy to provide copies of pilot certificates upon request before any shoot.
It depends on the location. Controlled airspace requires an FAA authorization (LAANC or waiver). Public land or streets often require a local film permit. Private property requires owner permission.
Our team handles all permit and airspace logistics. Contact us with your location and we'll flag requirements immediately.
Almost. Restrictions can come from FAA controlled airspace, Temporary Flight Restrictions, national parks, military zones, or private property rules. Our producers review locations fast and communicate what's possible. Send us your location and we'll assess it — usually within hours.
IATSE Local 600 & Union Work
IATSE Local 600 is the International Cinematographers Guild — the union that represents Directors of Photography, Camera Operators, and related camera crew on union film and television productions in the US.
Local 600 has formally extended its jurisdiction to cover drone operations on union productions. The covered positions include the drone pilot (aircraft operator), the drone camera operator (DCO) (gimbal/camera control), and drone technicians supporting the operation. All three are Local 600 covered positions on SAG-AFTRA, WGA, DGA, or otherwise union-covered productions.
Yes. Our drone pilots, drone camera operators (DCOs), and drone technicians are available as IATSE Local 600 members for union productions. We understand the requirements of working on union sets and can provide fully compliant crew for network television, streaming platforms, and studio features.
If your production is non-union, we can also provide highly experienced non-union crew. Let us know the union status of your production when you reach out and we'll staff accordingly.
We've worked on union productions for Netflix, HBO, NBC Universal, and others where Local 600 compliance was required — our workflow is built for it.
Local 600 jurisdiction applies on productions covered by a union collective bargaining agreement — primarily studio features, network television, and major streaming productions (Netflix, HBO, Apple, Amazon, etc.). On these productions, the drone pilot, drone camera operator, and drone technician are all required to be Local 600 covered positions.
It generally does not apply to non-union commercials, corporate work, music videos without union agreements, or independent productions. However, many commercial and branded content productions voluntarily work with Local 600 crew for quality and professional consistency.
If you're unsure whether your production requires union drone crew, your UPM or line producer will know — or ask us and we can help clarify.

1–2 weeks is ideal for most home-market productions. Complex shoots or city permits (NYPD requires 14 calendar days minimum) need more lead time. We sometimes accommodate last-minute — call us.
Safety first. High winds, heavy rain, and lightning are no-fly conditions. We monitor forecasts closely and communicate early to plan weather holds or reschedules. Light overcast and mild winds often still work — we'll always give you an honest assessment.
