Licensing & Legal

Are your drone pilots FAA licensed? +

All US drone pilots hold FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates. Canadian crew are Transport Canada Advanced certified. Internationally, we research and comply with each country's civil aviation authority requirements ahead of production.

We're happy to provide copies of pilot certificates upon request before any shoot.

Do I need a permit to film with a drone? +

It depends on the location. Controlled airspace requires an FAA authorization (LAANC or waiver). Public land or streets often require a local film permit. Private property requires owner permission.

Our team handles all permit and airspace logistics. Contact us with your location and we'll flag requirements immediately.

Can you fly anywhere? +

Almost. Restrictions can come from FAA controlled airspace, Temporary Flight Restrictions, national parks, military zones, or private property rules. Our producers review locations fast and communicate what's possible. Send us your location and we'll assess it — usually within hours.

IATSE Local 600 & Union Work

What is IATSE Local 600 and how does it affect drone operators? +

IATSE Local 600 is the International Cinematographers Guild — the union that represents Directors of Photography, Camera Operators, and related camera crew on union film and television productions in the US.

Local 600 has formally extended its jurisdiction to cover drone operations on union productions. The covered positions include the drone pilot (aircraft operator), the drone camera operator (DCO) (gimbal/camera control), and drone technicians supporting the operation. All three are Local 600 covered positions on SAG-AFTRA, WGA, DGA, or otherwise union-covered productions.

Are your drone crew Local 600 members? +

Yes. Our drone pilots, drone camera operators (DCOs), and drone technicians are available as IATSE Local 600 members for union productions. We understand the requirements of working on union sets and can provide fully compliant crew for network television, streaming platforms, and studio features.

If your production is non-union, we can also provide highly experienced non-union crew. Let us know the union status of your production when you reach out and we'll staff accordingly.

We've worked on union productions for Netflix, HBO, NBC Universal, and others where Local 600 compliance was required — our workflow is built for it.

Local 600 AvailableUnion & Non-Union
Does Local 600 jurisdiction apply to all drone work? +

Local 600 jurisdiction applies on productions covered by a union collective bargaining agreement — primarily studio features, network television, and major streaming productions (Netflix, HBO, Apple, Amazon, etc.). On these productions, the drone pilot, drone camera operator, and drone technician are all required to be Local 600 covered positions.

It generally does not apply to non-union commercials, corporate work, music videos without union agreements, or independent productions. However, many commercial and branded content productions voluntarily work with Local 600 crew for quality and professional consistency.

If you're unsure whether your production requires union drone crew, your UPM or line producer will know — or ask us and we can help clarify.

Does your insurance cover camera equipment? +

Yes. Our policy covers the drone, gimbal, and camera package we supply. If you provide your own camera or lenses, confirm coverage under your production's equipment insurance before the shoot.

Locations & Travel

Where are you based and what cities do you serve? +

We have crews across the US and Canada: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Austin, Houston, Phoenix, Washington DC, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Our Miami team regularly travels to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and South America. We travel globally for features, commercials, and large-scale productions.

Do you travel internationally? +

Yes. We've worked in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Europe, and beyond. International shoots require advance planning for drone import/export documentation, local permits, and aviation authority clearances — we handle all of it. Lead time is typically 2–4 weeks. Contact us early.

FAA Waivers

Can you fly drones over people? +

Yes. We hold a FAA § 107.39 Operation Over Human Beings waiver, allowing us to fly specific drones over crowds, talent, and crew on film, TV, commercial, and live event productions.

§ 107.39 Waiver Holder
Can you fly drones over moving vehicles? +

Yes. We hold a FAA § 107.145 Operation Over Moving Vehicles waiver — one of the few drone companies authorized to fly over active traffic for automotive commercials, chase sequences, and event coverage.

§ 107.145 Waiver Holder
Can you fly drones at night? +

Yes. We hold a FAA 107.29 Night Operations Waiver. All aircraft fly with FAA-compliant anti-collision lighting. Night drone filming is a specialty — city skylines, events, and dramatic low-light atmospheres.

What is a dual-operator drone setup? +

On our Inspire 3, heavy-lift, and gimbal FPV packages, two operators work together: a drone pilot who flies the aircraft and a drone camera operator (DCO) who independently controls the gimbal, exposure, and focus. The pilot focuses on safe flight; the camera operator focuses entirely on the shot.

Do you offer FPV drones? +

Yes. We offer freestyle FPV for dynamic immersive shots and Gimbal FPV for smoother cinematic looks. Camera options include RED Komodo, Freefly Ember, and GoPro. Learn more →

On-Set Operations

How much space does the drone crew need on set? +

A standard drone crew needs roughly 10–20 feet of clear launch/landing space. We brief your AD or location manager on requirements in advance. We're experienced in tight urban environments and adapt quickly.

Can you provide a live video feed to the monitor village? +

Yes. Most drone packages include a live HD wireless feed. We discuss feed requirements during pre-production.

What is the Cable Cam and CineTrack? +

We also operate a Cable Cam — a camera on a tensioned cable for high-speed shots over long distances — and the CineTrack, a motorized rail system for precision ground-level moves. Both pair perfectly with drone work.

Pricing & Booking

How much does drone filming cost? +

Rates depend on crew size, platform, camera package, location, duration, permits, and travel. We provide detailed line-item quotes. Contact us with your brief — quotes typically turn around same day.

How far in advance do I need to book? +

1–2 weeks is ideal for most home-market productions. Complex shoots or city permits (NYPD requires 14 calendar days minimum) need more lead time. We sometimes accommodate last-minute — call us.

What happens if the weather is bad on shoot day? +

Safety first. High winds, heavy rain, and lightning are no-fly conditions. We monitor forecasts closely and communicate early to plan weather holds or reschedules. Light overcast and mild winds often still work — we'll always give you an honest assessment.
